2010: What's in store?

Another year has arrived at the business doorstep.  Months of intense networking makes me feel as though we might have a "feeling" of what's running through the minds of both agencies and clients alike.  There is a prevalent optimism about where we are headed.  There is also an extremely cautious approach to budgets and projects.  Eveyone remembers the last 12 months. Even though the new attitude is one of let's move ahead, many are still licking the wounds of 2009 and are doing everything they can to avoid similar pitfalls and results.

Clients and agencies are doing all they can to get the very most for the dollars being spent and producers are trying to accomodate their needs within reason.

What do you see as the most pressing issues for YOUR business in 2010.

We invite your comments.

Economy sluggish but beginning to move

As the 4Q arrives business is still creeping along but we've noticed an upswing in both video and TV commercial projects.  Is this a mirage or are we coming out of the deep deep funk that has been floating over us for months?  What do YOU think?  We'd like to know. Drop us a line here or email

Happy Autumn everyone!

Web video arrives

Though there has been no response on our site I have heard from people in mnay different businesses.  It is fairly obvious that video content on web sites has arrived and it's here to stay. This is a good trend for us being producers of said video content but is this a good trend in general? It's been shown that video on web sites insures higher search rankings but some web developers we spoke to still have mixed feelings. What do you think?

Your web site needs content! Your web site demands video!

20 years ago the internet was a novelty.  10 years ago any business who was anybody had a web site.  Now that everyone has a web site,  and with the advent of YouTube,  video content is what can set your site apart from all of the others as a highly sucessful communication tool.  YouTube will broadcast your message for free.  Now you need to produce the right message to broadcast.

Google in conjunction with sister organization YouTube is becoming more video friendly all the time. By seeking out and placing sites with video content higher in the search results, it has become increasingly obvious that every site...your site...needs quality video content to not only get your message across,  but to insure through higher rankings that your target market can easily find you and your message.

Do you have video content on your site?  We'd like to know what you think.

A New Year Awaits

The holidaze are past...the winter weather has set in...a new president is about to be sworn in. I've heard that the economy (and really the entire society as a whole) is standing by and watching the outcome of the first quarter of 2009 based on the performance of Mr. Obama. We wish him luck, we wish him skill, we wish him grace under fire as surely he will be tested most severely.  Hopefully once we're past this symbolic hurdle,  we can then resume the struggle for new business which has has typified the new american economy in this century.

MEDIA MECHANIX is looking towards the internet as the engine that will drive our industry as businesses large and small continue to do serious battle in cyber space. As strategies and monies shift from the traditional media model,  enhanced web presence becomes crucial and we turn our sites to creating messages that will fly in this new world.

How is YOUR company functioning in this environment? I welcome all comments.

The usual holiday slowdown?

The expected slowdown in business has taken place the last couple of weeks but now I'm wondering if this is the usual yearly slowdown due to the holiday season (actually one year we were super busy) or is it the economy in general?  It's going to be a really interesting first quarter!  Everyone I've spoken to on the agency side of things is expecting a fairly substancial dip in sales and profits. I guess only time will tell what exactly happens as we begin 2009. So as the HOLIDAZE approach, I invite everyone to please chime in!  (no pun intended)

Welcome

We are very excited about this newly re-designed site created with expert assistance from our webmaster John Refano.  I am particularly intrigued by this blog and the chance to talk shop with people in our industry across the country and the world. Actually we cross a few different but related industries in our work and so there is an even larger number of possibilities for interesting discourse.

Here in my maiden blog I'd like to throw out the following question to anyone and everyone.

What do you think the severe economic situation will do to both the advertising and broadcast industries?

I look forward to speaking with you all in the near future.

All the best-

Joe Refano / President, Producer, Composer
